ID and document scan
Point the kiosk at a Ghana Card, passport or other ID and let Agoo fill in the check-in form, with numbers masked and images deleted on your schedule.
Agoo is in early access. This page describes the feature as it ships to early-access organisations; screens are illustrative.
ID scan saves typing at busy gates and gets names and numbers right first time. The visitor holds their ID to the kiosk camera and the name, ID number and expiry date fill themselves in. The visitor or receptionist checks them before carrying on.
AI ID and document scan is included on Pro and Enterprise.
How it reads an ID
Agoo reads IDs in two ways:
- On the device first. The Ghana Card and passports carry a machine-readable zone (the lines of letters and chevrons at the bottom or back). The kiosk reads it itself, with no internet connection and no AI.
- AI when the device can't. When there's no machine-readable zone, or it can't be read because the card is worn or the light is poor, the kiosk sends a cropped image of the ID to Agoo AI, which reads the printed details. This needs a network connection and uses AI credits.
The fields are always shown for a person to confirm. If neither method works, the kiosk asks for the details to be typed.
Supported IDs
| ID | Read on the device | Read by AI |
|---|---|---|
| Ghana Card | Yes | Yes |
| Passport | Yes | Yes |
| Driver's licence, voter ID, staff ID cards, others | No | Yes |
Masking and deletion
- Masked by default. ID numbers are shown masked on screen, such as
GHA-•••••••••-7, and in exports, unless someone's role allows the full number. - Encrypted. ID numbers are encrypted individually in the database. For watchlist matching, Agoo uses a secure hash, so the number can be matched without being shown.
- Images deleted on your schedule. ID images are deleted automatically after the time you set. The default is 24 hours. Every deletion is recorded.
- Not used for training. Images read by AI are used only to read that ID, and never to train AI models.
Set capture and deletion in Console → Settings → Forms (whether a visitor type asks for ID, and how) and Console → Settings → Data & privacy (how long images are kept).
Turn it on
Switch on Agoo AI
In Console → Settings → Agoo AI, turn on ID and document scan. See Agoo AI.
Add an ID scan field
In Console → Settings → Forms, add an ID scan field to each visitor type that needs it, such as Contractor or Delivery. Choose whether it's required.
Set how long to keep images
In Console → Settings → Data & privacy, choose how long ID images are kept. Keep them no longer than you need; many organisations need only the masked number, not the image.
Collect IDs only when you need them
Under Act 843, you should collect only the personal data you need. Many visits don't need an ID at all. Ask for IDs on the visitor types where your security policy requires them, and tell visitors why in your privacy notice.
